As it was by then 32 degrees centigrade, I went swimming at one of the many out-door pools in Hanover, which was within walking distance of the Kirchroder Turm, a spirituality centre on the outskirts, which had been designated the Centre for Celtic Spirituality. I arrived just as fellow Iona Community member Tony Phelan ( a lecturer in German from Oxford University) was concluding his talk ,and had a chat with various people who were hanging around in this relaxing environment, before more people gathered, and I shared leaderhip of an Iona-style open-air communion service in German, leading songs in English, with my friend Rev Dirk Gruetzmacher.
