SATURDAY
I went straight to the Feministisch-theologische Basisfakultaet for Bible-study, where it was emphasised that the - highly prestigious- project to produce a German language Bible translation in just (justice-oriented) language due for publication next year, was not a competitive attempt to be definitive, but to provide another voice amongst voices. The programme book printed each days texts both in the standard revised Luther version (which had suffered from some of the faults of the English language versions i,e, making children into sons etc) . It makes you sit up to hear Mark 10 when the disciples and disciplesses are both told off by Jesus for their attitude to children.
The alternative reading was pointed out: unless you receive the Kingdom of God as you would receive a little child.
The promise to Abraham was considered, but in the light of German history, the claim to possess the land needed to be radically re-interpreted.
